![]() ![]() I couldn't figure out why my fellow students and critics dismissed the medium when I thought it was obviously the medium of our time. I was aware of the fact that the lowly image was marching through the studios of the most important artists of that era: Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, John Baldessari. PG: From my days as an art student at Pratt Institute in the early 1970s, photography was still considered a bastard medium in the art world, not much more than a graphic art. And now you've tackled Richard Avedon, one of the principal photographers of the 20th century.
